COMMENT:

I was torn between describing the pipe as a Freeform Stack (Chimney) or the above. At the end, I had to go with what most people would see: a Freeform Billiard. The reason why I thought of the Stack is that the bowl is a lot more in height than the shank is in length (49mm and 28mm, respectively). With such a huge difference, and from the conventional point of view, the pipe is more of a Stack than a Billiard. However, if we take that rule into consideration and apply it every time, the far majority of today's Billiards will be blown into oblivion! Another piece of information that I need to point out is the extra width of the tapered mouthpiece, which is 17mm (0.67 of an inches). A lot of people prefer a wide mouthpiece bit since it offers a more comfortable clench.

COMMENT:

I'm not at all happy with my shape definition here. I gave a lot of thought to a variety of shapes, primarily, the Billiard, the Apple, and the Dublin. When that reasoning was making things more confusing, I tried to imagine the bowl shape without the carving. That brought me closer to the Dublin than anything else. And yet, that is not accurate enough, either. Maybe I should have considered "Freehand"! Whatever the shape is, I find it to be both beautiful and intriguing. It represents how a modified (freeform) classic shape can be both exciting and beautiful.

COMMENT:

I have to admit that I haven't seen too many Radice pipes in the Underwood finish, simply because they don't come by easily. Having said that, and out of those that I have seen over the years, I find this one to be the most sophisticated and interesting in terms of shape design. I do believe that the numerous photos will offer you a fairly clear idea of why I'm saying this. I also have to rely on the pictures to portray the shape, which cannot be described with traditional terms without doing the pipe a a huge injustice. I only have to add that I love the mouthpiece. It is so well-made and elegant, and in spite of that, it lets the pipe, with all the amount of wood involved, to take center stage. Finally, and due to the flat base of the bowl and shank, the pipe can rest on a flat surface without any support.
