COMMENT:

While this is one of the smallest Mastro pipes I have seen, it also happens to the shortest. The overall length of the pipe, from outer bowl wall to button of mouthpiece, is 118mm (4.65 inches), which makes it a most definite "nose warmer". This is the kind of pipe that would fit into your vest pocket serve when your smoking time is limited. It would be the perfect "break pipe" when you're on a lunch (or even, coffee) break. I love the combination of a perfectly rounded bowl and the square shank, complemented by a classic tapered mouthpiece.
The tobacco chamber is comparable in size to that of a Dunhill Group 2.

COMMENT:

I hope you will agree with me that this is a most elegant pipe. One of the reasons why I strongly believe so is the small size of the pipe. The combination of the bell-shape bowl, with its rounded base, and the six-paneled shank is absolutely spot on. The shank then hosts a beautifully made, hexagonal silver band. The tapered mouthpiece then take its rightful place through a classy Army Mount. Note that the rustication is quite fine and delicate, which more than suits the overall design of the shape. The smooth bowl top shows nothing but tight Bird's Eye.

COMMENT:

While this pipe may at first appear to be simple in design, it proves to offers so much more than what first meets the eye. A little, and yet significant, touch is the red, smooth ring that goes around the bowl; this same finish and stain are carried on to the end and base of the shank. The cumberland-like, acrylic mouthpiece more than suits the design, and the shank "cap" of the same material and color smoothens up the transition from the blasted wood and then the thin metal band to the tapered mouthpiece. The blast was successfully and skillfully carried out, and it shows the beautiful grain of the pipe, with nothing but Bird's Eye on the upper part of the bowl.
The tobacco chamber is comparable in size to that of a Dunhill Group 4.

COMMENT:

Here's a truly classic Canadian, with the long, oval shank and the short, tapered mouthpiece. The relatively small size of the pipe gives it more the air and the looks of a classic Canadian of yesteryears! The shank measures 69mm (2.72 inches), while the entire pipe is about 147mm (5.79 inches) long. The blast is absolutely wonderful, with delicate, and yet pronounced, Ringblast. The bowl top is of a smooth finish, stained very light red-brown. This same finish is seen on a large part of the shank, where the nomenclature is stamped.
The tobacco chamber is comparable in size to that of a Dunhill Group 4-5.

COMMENT:

The shape is quite intriguing, and I used the word "Prune" for lack of a more accurate description. You might see it as an egg, and I wouldn't agree with you. The most attractive feature of this pipe is the INCREDIBLE BLAST. Any pipe maker, regardless of the nationality, the experience, or the reputation, would love to have his/her name on a pipe with such a fabulous blast. The Ringblast is so well executed you could actually count the number of rings around the bowl by simply touching it. I applaud the decision not to add any silver work, inserts and to opt for a straightforward, tapered, acrylic mouthpiece. The blast is all you to see to realize how gorgeous and unique this pipe is.

COMMENT:

A few years ago, you simply wouldn't find a pipe in this shape and in this finish, and above all, in this small size, coming from a major Italian pipe maker such as Mastro De Paja. There's always a growing demand for smaller pipes that come with the incredible wood and the reasonable prices of Italian pipes, and this pipe here epitomizes this concept and this need. The pipe is a delicate blend of the Bulldog and the Rhodesian. The top of the bowl indicates the former, while the lower part more points to the latter. The simple, round shank, followed by the slim, tapered mouthpiece, seems to be the perfect choice. Ah, the pipe measures a mere 132mm (5.2 inches) in total length, and so, you can easily fit it into your jacket/vest pocket.
The tobacco chamber is comparable in size to that of a Dunhill Group 2-3.

COMMENT:

Is this a gorgeous shape, or is this a gorgeous shape?! I simply love it. I think the main reason why I'm so attracted to this design is the combination of the classic Apple bowl and the hexagonal shank. I love the way these two contrasting shape (round and paneled) meets so graciously and effortlessly. The shank then hosts an elegant silver band of the same shape, and which has the name "Mastro De Paja" engraved on it. The tapered mouthpiece then steps in through an unusual Army Mount, with a little space left deliberately, as if for the mouthpiece to back off and let the bowl and shank stand out as much as they deserve!
