COMMENT: Usually, the more unusual and unique a pipe is, the more self-explanatory the shape is, the more difficult for me to write a comment about it without simply stating the obvious. That is why in those cases, I do my best to offer as many pictures as possible; this way you have all the necessary information to "see" the pipe as well and as much as possible without actually seeing it. There are, however, a few points that I need to made:- The two fish eyes you see on the two sides of the bowl are made of amber-like acrylic, which reflects the color of the mouthpiece.
- The mouthpiece kind of has two different tenons: The long tube-like part that goes through the shank (the fish tail), and the actual tenon which is inserted into the bowl side.
- While the pipe is quite a handful, it is extremely light in weight.
- If you look at the third picture from left, third row, you notice that the maker drilled the pipe with the draught hole exist smack on the bottom, and quite central. This I suspect will lead to very easy and even combustion.
What I really appreciate about this pipe is that it combines a very elaborate and innovative design and full functionality. As unique and collectible the shape is, it is the kind of pipes that you would treat as any other pipe when it comes to "picking up a pipe for a smoke". This is rarely the case when we talk about elaborate pipe shapes that depict a shape in nature. If you do like the shape and how it is made, you might want to consider getting the two pipes on this page, and you will end up having one beautiful "Fish Pipe Set". |
