Important Note:   Some of the pipes on this page carry the unique stamp: "50/2". This marking was carried out on all the pipes produced in the year 2002. Bruto celebrates his 50th birthday, and hence the "50", and the 25th anniversary of his pipe making career, and hence the "/2".
The pipes carrying this stamp are clearly indicated within their table.

COMMENT:

This is a pipe that offers great flexibility when it comes to the shape and size. Let me explain! It could be suitable for people who like: (1) straight pipes, (2) bent pipes, (3) long shanked pipes, (4) classic shapes, (5) freeforms (and freehands), and (6) large and medium size bowls. The walls are an incredible 20mm in thickness at the uppermost part of the bowl. While there are a few small bald spots, the grain is predominantly good and regular. The pipe should be comfortable to hold in the mouthpiece in spite of its weight and thanks mainly to the saddle mouthpiece. Like the above pipe, but to a much lesser degree, the drill left a tiny hole in the part of the tobacco chamber opposite the draught hole exit; this is not a problem at all, considering how thick the walls are, plus it's really tiny and superficial. The pipe is guaranteed just like the one above. No sweat!

COMMENT:

Yeah, I believe the description "Freehand" is more than justified in this case. Having said that, the bowl shape seems to be based (even if vaguely) on two classic shapes: The Dublin and the Pot. The latter is due to the wide diameter of the bowl, even if the shank is longer that you would expect on such a pipe. The bowl walls are impressively thick (up to 14mm or a bit over half an inch). Considering that the pipe is about 160mm (6.30") in overall length and that the shank and mouthpiece are slightly bent, it should make a great reading pipe. You really need to hold this pipe in your hand to realize how light in weight it is, considering the un believable amount of wood it has.

COMMENT:

You may know how hard it is for me to define a shape as a "Freehand" when there's a way around it. I just couldn't do this to this incredible pipe. I was literally taken aback by the beauty, the gracefulness, and the uniqueness of the design behind this pipe. The pipe offers an ultimate combination of extra large size and extra length, on the one hand, and surprisingly low weight and impressive design, on the other. When I noticed the two small visible flaws (see the close-up on the second row), I called Bruto to inquire why he either didn't attempt to sand them away or down-grade the pipe. I wished I hadn't called! He said: "First, this is one of the most time-consuming shapes I have made recently, and I decided not to sand the bowl further in fear of ruining a shape that I believe should be exactly how it is now. As for the downgrading, the pipe, I believe, is already way below the grade it deserves. If you don't like it, send it back, and I'll never sell it. There's enough room in my display cabinet".
I can't help but ask Bruto's forgiveness and declare that I fully agree with him.
By the way, the pipe is so long it doesn't fit into the DC standard box without the mouthpiece removed.

COMMENT:

Here's an elegant and large Calabash, with numerous unique Don Carlos touches. The bowl is quite elongated and the shank is tapered, with flattened sides. Bruto added this elaborate boxwood insert, which does enhance the overall beauty of the shape design. Though the tobacco chamber is HUGE, the pipe i s so light in weight and well-balanced, and thanks to the comfortable Army Mount saddle mouthpiece, the pipe will be a true pleasure to clench on. The grain is well-pronounced and uniform all over the pipe, with no bald spots. The Bird's Eye on the bowl top is nothing short of spectacular.
