Important Note:   Some of the pipes on this page carry the unique stamp: "50/2". This marking was carried out on all the pipes produced in the year 2002. Bruto celebrates his 50th birthday, and hence the "50", and the 25th anniversary of his pipe making career, and hence the "/2".
The pipes carrying this stamp are clearly indicated within their table.

COMMENT:

This pipe shows how simplicity and straightforwardness in pipe design can lead to some incredible beauty. Probably before it was rusticated, the pipe looked more like a classic Billiard than it does now. I suspect that the rustication process, eating away part of the wood, rendered the bowl's upper part less in diameter than the lower part, which led me to conclude that it's a "freeform" Billiard. This is a fabulous all-purpose pipe.

COMMENT:

This is one of Bruto's latest additions to the Don Carlos repertoire. It's a graceful and well thought-out combination of two popular classic shapes: The Dublin and the Cutty. Of course, the only thing that is a reminder of the classic Cutty is the little bowl heel. I also love the octagonal shank and how it blends in with the relatively rounded bowl base. Add to all this the unique saddle mouthpiece and the gorgeous boxwood insert, and you have a confirmed winner. Another important feature is the size, which is comparable to a Dunhill Group 4.
When I asked Bruto why he didn't change the insert since it has this visible defect. He simply said: "It's part of nature, and I think it adds a little reminder of the imperfect material we work with."
