Don Carlos: "Ars et Labor"

Don Carlos Logo

What does the name "Ars et Labor" mean?
The name is given to a very rare and unique Don Carlos grade. It is stamped on pipes that are based on an innovative shape design, an exceptional way of utilizing the natural grain of the briar, or a combination of both. Needless to say, Bruto spends much more time and energy to create an Ars et Labor than on any of his usual creations. He is also very emotionally attached to each and every one of them.

COMMENT:

Weird, isn't it?
For some reason, that I hope will be clear to you from the pictures, I feel it's justified to call this piece of art "The Cross-Eyed Pipe"! This pipe is the ultimate solution to those who don't like the smoke coming up onto their face. Even I, with a busted nose, would enjoy smoking it. Now, I could be more accurate with my shape definition, but, hey, if this pipe is not a Freehand, then freehands don't exist. To tell you the truth, several shapes came to my mind, including the Volcano and the Poker. The bowl is quite large, with an incredible amount of wood, and so the weight is not what you would call "feather weight". Having said that, and thanks to how well balanced the pipe is and how comfortable the saddle mouthpiece is, I'm confident that the weight will not be an issue at all, if you have strong teeth and if you prefer to clench on your pipe for most of the time. On the other hand, if you prefer to hold your pipe while smoking, this will be a special treat to the hand.
I knew that no number of words would do the pipe justice, and so I decided to offer you as many photos as my camera can put up with. I hope the result you see above proves that I made the right decision.
