COMMENT:

This is definitely the smallest pipe on this page. The shape is kind of hazy to me, though I believe the closest is indeed the Dublin; it also reminds me to a lesser degree of the Apple. I really like the very tight angle that the meeting of the bowl and shank resulted in. The shank, moreover, takes a slightly square shape, due to the four panels. The Army Mount tapered mouthpiece is an integral part of the overall pipe design. The tobacco chamber is quite conical starting at 22.5mm at the bowl rim and goes down to a few millimeters. The tobacco chamber size is comparable to a Dunhill Group 4.

COMMENT:

I was tempted to describe it as a Freeform Dublin, which it is. I then took into consideration a few other features, such as the slightly oval bowl, the paneled shank and changed my mind. At first I thought that the bowl top is all plateau, but then I realized that it was rusticated just as the rest of the pipe; the same applies to the end of the shank where the mouthpiece joins in. The bowl walls are incredibly thick, and yet the weight is kept to a minimum, thanks to the quality of the briar used.

COMMENT:

I'm starting to understand why Wilma Armellini refers to these "Coral" pipes as "Freehand". Indeed, I'm finding it difficult to associate them with standard, classic shapes. This one, of course, is no exception though it does remind me of the Dublin, but not enough! What you might note clearly from the photos is that this pipe bowl is shaped into four panels, while the shank is a Diamond shape. The huge black acrylic shank extension paves the way to an elegant saddle mouthpiece of an Army Mount. The pipe can indeed rest on a flat surface with no support, thanks to the slightly flattened bowl base.

COMMENT:

This is the largest and heaviest pipe on this page, and believe me, it's not for nothing. The pipe has enough wood to make another pipe or two, and I'm not kidding! This is the kind of pipe you couldn't burn out even if you tried! If you like your pipe to take a lot of tobacco, burn cool and dry and you like to hold your pipes in your hand, then this pipe could prove a winner. Here's the combination of rounded bowl and diamond shank and shank extension, leading to an Army Mount, with a saddle mouthpiece.

COMMENT:

I understand that a simple "Freeform Bell" is an understatement, especially considering that the Bell itself is a variation of the Dublin. However, this is the closest it can get to a more precise shape definition than a simple "Freehand". Note the pointed bowl base, which could qualify the pipe to the traditional "Pointed Bent". Anyway, the pipe is huge, and in this case, the elegant tapered mouthpiece is most befitting. Note also the conical shank, and of course, the tobacco chamber, which starts at a diameter of 23mm at the top and goes down to a mere few millimeters in a distance of 49mm, which is the tobacco chamber depth.

COMMENT:

Boy, when I put my mind to something, I do it! Let me explain. I initially wanted to call this a "Freehand", but then after a bit of thinking, the "Freeform Dublin" became more and more attractive and accurate. What made me hesitate before I decided to go ahead with the current description is the fact that the bowl is squashed in from the two sides, creating an oval shape. Note the tight angle the shank creates with the bowl, and of course, the very unusual pyramid-shape of the shank. The Mouthpiece here is a classic tapered one, with an Army Mount.
